Mark Gatt competes succesfully in Turkey Seniors

Mark Gatt participated in the popular grade A Seniors Tournament in Turkey. He reached the quarter final of the singles after straight sets wins to the last 16. He played a good match with many long games in very windy conditions losing to Russian no 1 Andrey Smirnov 2-6 1-6.

In the doubles event Mark and his partner for the week Sean Crean from Great Britain won a very tight semi-final 6-0 3-6 10-8. In the final Mark and his partner played the top seeds including world doubles no 1 Andrew Lux from Germany and Clemens Weihendl from Austria. In front of a packed centre court yesterday afternoon Mark and Sean won the 1st set 6-4. The second set was lost 3-6 and even though Mark led 5-4 and serving in the Championship tiebreak he and his partner had to settle for 2nd place after losing 6-10. He has successfully defended his points in the singles – this week no 67 in the world in singles over 40 and up to no4 in the world in doubles over 40. He is also in the top10 in mixed doubles.
