The ‘Masters’ was concluded on Tuesday with a high quality and intense match between two of our young best prospects, Alex Degabriele and Liam Delicata.
Alex started strongly and aggressively to take an early lead in the first set only for Liam to claw his way back but the former held on to win it 6-4. The second set saw Liam playing very consistently and intelligently while some unforced errors were creeping in Alex’s play. This resulted in Liam turning the tables on Alex to win the second set by the same margin to take this entertaining match to the final deciding set.
Young Alex continued with his aggressive play and managed to increase his level a notch to clinch the set and the match 6-4; 4-6; 6-2. The small crowd braving the icy conditions were certainly regaled with a very keenly contested match.
At the end of the match Stefan Abela from Bank and Valletta and Charlene Attard, Director of Sport at the Malta Olympic Committee, presented the trophies to the two finalists.
