Francesca Curmi a highly ranked tennis player in Europe has participated and won the “Young Champions Cup” which is the biggest and most prestigious international tennis tournament in Belgium for young players between 12 and 14 years. Category 1 is the highest possible ranking that a tournament can achieve. Francesca in the final beat number 18 Tennis ranked player in Europe Viktoriya Kanapatskaya from Belarus 6-4 4-6 6-0.
Viktoria Azarenka, Kei Nishikori, Juan Martin Del Potro, Stanislas Wawrinka and Marcos Baghdatis have all participated in the Young Champions Cup in Hasselt in prior years.
The best players from the five continents have fought in recent years in Hasselt to earn the necessary points needed to push through to the top of the world rankings.
Francesca Curmi participation in Belgium as part of the ITF team is a result of her no 1 placing in the Development Championships that took place in Antalya, Turkey last March following her invitation from the Malta Tennis Federation. The event in Turkey was hosted by the Turkish Tennis Federation and attracted players from 15 countries.
