The Malta Tennis Federation has started a new series to take the views of our current top ranked junior and senior players on the following questions. Our eleventh player is Kélian Lauwers.
1) Favourite international player.
Rafael Nadal is undeniably my favourite professional tennis player. Beyond his career achievements and his incredible fighting spirit, he is also a very humble and down-to-earth person. I had the chance to see him practice and obtain an autograph from him. Yet, I cannot but mention how impressed I am of another tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, whom I love the style of play and believe he is extremely promising.
2) Preferred surface.
Although I would love to try and play on grass, my preferred surface is clay, the so-called “red dirt”. It is one of the reasons why Roland Garros is my favourite Grand Slam. Pity, there is only 1 clay court left in Malta!
3) Favourite sport besides tennis.
I love playing football and the national team I support is France. Allez Les Bleus!
4) Favourite film.
It has to be Star Wars, not only the original film, but also the entire Star Wars film series. May the Force be with you.
5) Person I admire.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the French professional tennis player, who just announced that he would retire at Roland Garros 2022. He has had an illustrious career and he is one of the players with the best record against the Big Three (Nadal, Federer, Djokovic).
