Gordon Asciak is a well-known name in the Maltese tennis world, having made a significant impact both nationally and internationally. At the age of 16, he became the Maltese National Champion, a title he held for an impressive 13 years from 1978 to 1991. Gordon’s passion for tennis started at a young age, and he went on to compete in prestigious tournaments such as Junior Wimbledon. He also represented Malta in 40 Davis Cup ties, earning an impressive 37 victories and 33 losses. One of his most notable achievements was in 1995 in Congo, where his victories helped Malta secure promotion to Group 2. In addition to the Davis Cup, Gordon won several medals in international competitions, including a gold medal in the Small States of Europe in 1993.
After retiring from playing, Gordon continues to be an important figure in the local tennis world, currently serving as the national team coach for Malta. His combined achievements and impact on the sport of tennis in Malta have earned him a place in the Malta Tennis Federation National Hall of Fame.
