After yesterday’s morning’s successes in both the male singles matches we had mixed fortunes in the evening sessions. Matthew Asciak teamed up with young Alex Degabriele against the strong Egyptian pairing of A.El Sayed/K.M.Maamoun. All the games were tight but the Egyptians were winning most of the deciding points to prevail 6-2; 7-5. Next up was Helene Pellicano who overcame the loss of the first set to beat her Egyptian opponent, Aya El Sayed 4-6; 6-1; 7-5. Great comeback and win for our youngster. The last match of the day saw an epic battle between our other young athlete, Francesca Curmi, and the vastly experienced, Aya El-Aouni of Morocco. Francesca started well and won the first set 6-3 but her opponent drew on all her experience and won the 2nd and 3rd set 7-6; 7-6 taking advantage also of Francesca’s hampered movement caused by cramps. Well done everyone and let’s give our all for today’s matches were we will have Matthew Asciak and Liam Delicata both involved in the men’s singles, Helene Pellicano also in the singles and Francesca Curmi and Elaine Genovese in the Doubles later on.
