The 2022 VLTC Open was concluded on Saturday, 7th May, saw 50 participants battle it out for the honours.  A good mix of emerging talent together with more established players made this edition a very interesting event.

The level of tennis on display was very encouraging and some memorable matches took place to the delight of the spectators present throughout the tournament.  The first semi final saw young Liam Delicata overcome the resistance of  the evergreen Matthew Debono who gave everything he got but had to eventually succumb to the more consistent and energetic Liam.

The other semi final saw Malta champion, Matthew Asciak, overcome the strong resistance of Dutch player, Bas de Laat, to set up a now familiar final line up against Liam.

The final itself turned out to be a bit of an anti climax as after a very close contested 11 games, a visibly uncomfortable Asciak had to retire injured with the score 6-5 in favour of his young opponent.

Special thanks go to the participants, the organisers, the officiating team and to the sponsors, Kordin Grain Terminal, for making this MTF sanctioned event possible.  Well done everyone and on to the next one!
